LOWELL -- The new Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts will hold a membership drive Sunday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Western Avenue Artist Studios, 122 Western Ave., Lowell. The Scouts are looking for girls in grades kindergarten through 12.

BOSTON — Attorney General Martha Coakley on Monday authorized a ballot question proposing to reinstate a nearly century old law barring out-of-state gay couples from marrying in Massachusetts, according to The Associated Press.

Route 8 closed at Massachusetts line (Republican-American)
State Police closed Route 8 northbound in Winsted around 1:30 p.m. after a traffic accident just over the state line in Massachusetts. Police will be diverting travelers attempting to drive north on Route 8 near Northwestern Connecticut Community College toward Colebrook. It is not known how long the road will be closed.
